Brisbane Weekend Guide

The sun shone differently there, the trees swayed to their own tune and commuters went about their business, leisurely, no sense of urgency in their steps.

It was my first trip to Brisbane, and it took me by surprise. I loved the city, the colours on the water and the serenity that surrounded the city.

Mr CK and I were lucky to be shown around by 'locals' (friends from Melbourne and Perth who moved to Brisbane over the last few years). We were able to get a closer glimpse of the city from their point of view and it certainly looked good!

The list below is a little taste of the city we explored.

Enjoy!

Eat

The chilli sweet potato fries and cronuts at Eat Street Markets.

Smash as many coffees you can at Campos Coffee.

Order the smoked marrow bone at Gerard's Bistro.

Cocktails and the river views at Friday's.

Shop

Visit James Street in Fortitude Valley for designer boutiques.

The Paddington Antique Centre found in the old Plaza Theatre with over fifty dealers.

Do

Take the ferry up the river into town. Stand out the front, face the wind and pretend to be Rose and Jack.

Pet the tigers at Australia Zoo.

Dance up a storm at Alfred and Constance, housed inside two beautiful heritage-listed homes.

Stay

For an edgy, oriental vibe, stay at the Empire Hotel.

For a secluded boutique stay, book in at Spicers Balfour Hotel.
