A Good Skin Routine

A good skin routine is what everyone needs, but it's often not tailored to your skin. We buy whatever we read in magazines, blogs and what our friends recommend. But not until we try it for ourselves do we see whether it works for us or not.

Skinstitut invited me for a personalised skin consultation followed by an AHA Enzyme Peel. The consultation began by chatting about what I eat, how much liquid I have (including water, coffee and alcohol) and the history of my skin. I mentioned that I had eczema when I was younger. The therapist recommended a sensitive skin routine for me and she spoke through Skinstitut's 5 a-day programme. This involves the following steps: Cleanse, Exfoliate, Correct, Hydrate and Protect.

Here are the products recommended for me:

1. Cleanse

Gentle Cleanser - Removes surface impurities and makeup. For all skin types, especially delicate and sensitive skin. Green Tea, Goji Berry, Aloe Vera, Vitamin E.

2. EXFOLIATE

Enzymatic Micro Peel - Soothing micro exfoliant. For all skin types, especially dry, dehydrated and sensitive skin. Papaya extract, Chamomile, Passionfruit, Grape seed oil, Vitamin B3.

3. Correct

Multi-Active Mist - Hydrates and brightens. For dehydrated, sensitive and ageing skin. Vitamin B3, Ginseng Green Tea, Licorice Root.

4. Hydrate

Moisture Defence Normal Skin - Intense hydration with antioxidants. For combination skin. Canadian Willowherb, Kakadu Plum extract, Hyaluronic Acid.

5. Protect

Age Defence SPF 50+ - Broad spectrum moisturiser with Vitamin B3 & antioxidants. For all skin types and conditions. Tinabsorb S & M, Vitamin B3, Antioxidants.

Repair Balm - Intense recovery balm aids in the healing and repair process. For dry, cracked and extremely sensitive skin. Shea Butter, Copper, Botanical Vitamin A, Cermides, Goji Berry.

My prescribed products are gentle on the skin and are generally for all skin types, so it's safe to say anyone could use them. Yet for a customised skincare routine it's best to go through to a Skinstitut paramedical therapist.

After the consultation, we moved onto the AHA Enzyme Peel. This peel is an active treatment that uses enzymes to micro-exfoliate and refresh skin. A gentle option for all skin types, it's designed to soothe, hydrate and renew. During the treatment the therapist used the products she prescribed for me. As she applied them she explained what it was, what ingredients it has and how to use it so I could follow her instructions at home.

I had never had an enzyme peel before so I was a little worried about how my skin would look afterwards. But she assured me that there would be no down-time, only slight redness, if any, after the treatment. She was right, I looked fresh and glowing more than anything else.

I've been using my Skinstitut 5 a-day programme for two months and have loved the results. My skin is looking fresh, clear and hydrated.

Skinstitut offer personal consultations through Skinstitut paramedical skincare therapists all over Australia. It's worth having a consultation to find out what's best for your skin.
