Why You Should Wear Colour in Winter

Melbourne in winter can get pretty drab. The sky is grey and everyone wears black, there isn't much colour on the streets or in the sky. I have to admit, I also fall into the all-black Melbourne uniform in winter. Black is simple to style and classic but my mood is always a little more subdued when in all black. Colour on the other hand immediately makes the wearer feel alive and upbeat and has the same impact for those around them. But attempting to corporate brights into your outfit when it's utterly grey outside, is a challenge.

I had been lusting after these Jennifer Behr Faye earrings for months. I finally decided to take the plunge and bought them from Shopbop. They are beautifully handmade in New York City and statement in size but also in a true summer colour, rose pink. But I wasn't going to wait until summer to wear these beauties. So I made myself incorporate them into my winter wardrobe and with that it meant pairing them with colour.

Colour comes naturally to my wardrobe. But like everyone, I have to make a conscious decision to wear it in winter, especially when it's cold outside and the only hues that come to mind are greys, black and navy. I love the combination of pink and red. I think it's utterly joyous. So I paired them with a vintage red shirt which belonged to my grandmother. One can't help feeling more optimistic and happy on the inside seeing this colour combination, don't you think?

When I lived in New York City, I noticed colour all year round. It made the personalities on the streets more colourful, literally, and with that, colour created an electric mood which you can feel in the city everyday. There are also a lot of funky, colour-loving people in Melbourne and I want to be one of those, especially during winter. You can't help smiling when seeing a colourful outfit down the street. These people stand out, in a good way, in the sea of muted grey, navy and black.
