The Art of Compassion

This beautiful and raw photograph of a man caught my eye. His past shows through the lines on his face, his lifestyle through the thick greying mane of hair and beard. But it was his eyes that spoke to me, reflecting the life he has lead and the paths he has taken.

These photographs are by Lee Jeffries, an artist from Manchester, United Kingdom. Jeffries began his career photographing sporting events, however, after a chance meeting with a young homeless girl in the streets of London, his subject matter and perception of life changed. The homeless became the subject of his art. Each model in his photographs he made an effort to get to know before asking their permission to take their portrait. Meeting them in Europe and the United States, his photographs portray his compassion for these people and the hardships they face everyday.
