Rockcliffe Winery Escape
This past weekend my blogger friends Bonnie Friday, Nadine from Modern Girls in Vintage Pearls, Liz and I were invited by Rockcliffe Winery in Denmark, WA to attend their annual Harvest dinner. We set out early on the five hour journey down south, making our way through gorgeous country Australia. Upon our arrival at Rockcliffe winery, we were shown behind the scenes of how wine is made, its journey from grape to bottle. It is a fascinating process, I have a deeper appreciation for wine makers (and wine) after seeing it. Take a look at my photos here from another winery backstage tour.
'What is a visit to a winery without a little tasting?' I hear you ask. Well you will be pleased to hear we did a lot of that! Being a big wine fan, while still learning which wine varieties I prefer, I was keen to try them all. We sampled about ten different wines from four of the winery's ranges; Rockcliffe, Forty Foot Drop, Third Reef and Quarram Rocks. My favourites were the Forty Foot Drop Sparkling Brut NV which was fruity and light, Rockcliffe Pinot Noir 2010 which was deliciously "dark and brooding" and the Forty Foot Drop Port Muscat NV which tasted like fruit cake and brandy snaps, yum! The Harvest dinner that evening was a blur of great wine, delicious food and awesome company. What a fantastic way to celebrate the end of the wine season!
While we were in Denmark we had to visit the Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk. It was amazing walking amongst 400-year-old giants known as the Ancient Empire. We also made a stop at gorgeous Williams Bay beach afterwards before heading back to the city.
We had the most wonderful weekend. Everyone at Rockcliffe were ever so kind showing us around, teaching us about their wines and making us feel so welcome! Thank you so much for the opportunity!
Denmark is a beautiful part of our country, I highly recommend visiting Rockcliffe Winery and WA's south, it is well worth the long drive!
